Keswick Mountain Adventures will teach you all of the basic climbing skills in a practical and safe way under the direct supervision of our expert instructors. You will cover ropework, equipment selection, climbing techniques and skills and much more whilst climbing some of the Lake District’s classic routes.This is a superb way to discover the pleasures of rock climbing and at Keswick Mountain Adventures we know that once you’ve tried it you’ll want more.

This course is the perfect introduction to rock climbing and is intended for people with little or no climbing experience. Based in Keswick we’ve access to some of the best roadside crags in the Lake District, if not the UK, so you’ll spend the maximum amount of time climbing and the minimum time walking. Our venues are very user friendly with routes at grades to suit all. Your Keswick Mountain Adventures instructors know the area intimately, we know which routes catch the sun and when, where to head if things are too busy, the ideal routes to select for climbers whatever their ability, and so much more.  Introductory Rock Climbing

On this rock climbing course we cover the following:

  1. Climbing equipment it’s use and limitations
  2. Knots and basic ropework
  3. Belaying basics
  4. Movement and technique
  5. Route finding and grading systems
  6. Bouldering (climbing low down without a rope)
  7. Basic safety, understanding objective dangers
  8. Abseiling and choice of safe descents from climbs
  9. Top roping / bottom roping systems
  10. Climbing ethics and historical aspects
  11. Environmental issues
  12. Lots of climbing!

This is a fun course and no previous experience is necessary. An ideal family activity where you may be surprised at your own and your family’s abilities. The youngest person we’ve taught to climb was two years old and the oldest was seventy seven. We provide all the equipment, all you need is a go for it attitude.
